Some shelters have to put dogs with special needs down due to the extended shelter stay they will endure or their medical requirements are too expensive.
Many times people will find the dog of their dreams in a shelter, but when its time to take the necessary steps to adopt they learn the dog has a long term medical issue which will require extra care. Unfortunately, the majority of the time this potentially wonderful story ends badly for the dog. The people will walk away because they don't think they can accept or don't want to accept the special care this dog would require.
The Molly Inspires Foundation provides grant money to shelters to offset the additional cost to care for dogs with special needs or we will provide funds to pay for a treatment to cure the ailment.
